    torture

and the thunders roll under my feet
the ground jolted as the sky
    trembled in deceit

and as lightnings toil the heavens
a hundred years of pent up tears
    now drained and washed
      down everything...

i just wasn’t made for this time

    the noise bleed into words
    and the hungry tongue tortures
    the silent scream with prejudice
grumble echoes through the horizon's fleet
    disintegrate into warm breeze
    a gut-perspiring beat

    as the thoughts overlap
    with unpatterned rhythm
and mind piercing with each mussing

    the thumping of the noise
    now continue to sting
    and continue to irritate
oh, how much torture can one take?

    Illo Friday: Heroes

    mijn redder

Heroes and Deities: The Ambiguous Twists

Ares, the god of war. The month of March was named after his Roman name, Mars. Although known to be aggressive and sanguinary, love over-ruled him thru Aphrodite (the goddess of love, beauty and affection, wife of Hephaestus and daughter of Zeus), with whom he had an illicit affair which produced three children: Phobus (phobia), Deimus (fear) and Harmonia (married to Cadmus, who slayed the dragon which was sacred to Ares, but after 8 years of penance, he married Harmonia. And gave her as a wedding gift, a necklace fashioned by Hephaestus, together with a jeweled robe, which had the power of stirring up strife to whoever possessed it. Harmonia and Cadmus were turned into serpents.)

In Later legends, Eros (the god of love) was said to be the son of Aphrodite- by various fathers: Ares, Zeus (god of the sky, the supreme diety) or Hermes (god of luck and weath, sleep and dream, and conductor of the souls of the dead to Hades - god of the underworld, brother of Zeus). Some literature suggest Eros and Aphrodite as lovers. Aphrodite's greatest rival is Persephone (goddess of the dead and ferility of the earth, queen of the underworld, daughter of Zeus nad Demeter, wife of Hades), where being bound to return to Hades, fell inlove with Adonis who was also inlove with Aphrodite.

As the All-Father, the Greeks had to make Zeus polygamous or promiscuous and chose the latter as being less offensive to their mores. By his sister and wife Hera, he sired Hebe, Eileithyia, Hephaestus and Ares.

And like poetry, their stories are open to more than one interpretation.

    -----
note: I wasn't planning of drawing them all, given the limited time and resources, and all the literature i wanted to read, who else would i fancy but Ares, the god of war, the ruler of passion, the avenger, the hero.

    coastlines

    wading my feet thru water
burried a second in wet land
i looked down and saw -
we are but grains of sand
washed among a desert of waves
    the heat burning and melting
    each salty vignette.

    the monotonous journey
    of every new day

    ends up in a beauty
    cast down the unawake
    vessels of the clouds
    sail to the northwind's dictate
    tossing down shadows
    and colors with no name

    one day a reflection shimmered
to the corner of my eye
it was you in a disguise
    of a fibble light

we swim in a galaxy of endless passersby
and every turn of the wave
    you flung closer by
the indulgent sun is out again
revoyaging the plumblessness of the sky

i see you looking up in pain
i see you in the infinte pattern
    each star you reflected
each star sweeps thru your breath
and like wind blowing through my face
your shadow kiss my tears away

we are confined to the ideas of mankind
by the border of conventional laws we bind
    what is really in me,
    what is really in you?
im all here waiting for the waves to continue

before the last wave will fade
    before the last turn disintigrate
only two pairs of eyes left hovered
would these pairs find each other?

and i drown myself in wonder
coz we are but a grain of sand
in the coastline of the world.

je bent zover weg.. maar ook zo dichtbij mijn hart

    Illo Friday: Black and White

    Confined by Time

and the sight of you split in two
im bound to the limits of my dying due
each second i blend with your shadow
each second i spin with endless tomorrows

    gray eyes, watch me
as the rain envelope my anxiety
threads of silver drops embroider the darkness
an hour of lassitude, of mild physical distress.

    catch me...
       before its all over
    hold me...
       before i quiver
    save me...
       before i get lost.

    Illo Friday: Summer

    The Dance of Innocence

the dance of innocence © Velvet

The palace of the Sun rose up in columns
As girls of the forest, nymphs dance around in glee
Free as the sun and moon that shine
Ungrasping the agony and hatred of mankind.

Little laughters paint the leaves with due
Their standstill cover the darkness with light.
A new bright morning rising with the beat
Of echos and melodies thru their thumping feet.

Wind blowing through the swift courses of the sky
Make mine your fancy and take this liberty.
Open your thoughts to the change of day
As radiance guide your spirit away.

    -----
    notes:
The Story behind the poem: Experiencing now the transition of Summer to the rainy season in this part of the world, i recall how i welcomed the summer of this year which came around last March.

The Story behind the drawing: I decided to participate at
Illustration Friday. And their Theme for this week is Summer...

With this, Two things remained in my mind. First the Song "Driving in the Sun" by the Cranes. Second, Ovid's "Phaethon's Ride". I guess, combining them together i came up with my version of part of a Michealangelo painting. And i beg you dear readers not to compare. Now Velvet signs off as i download me the long-awaited program Corel Draw.

And because i dont have any other tool other than MS Paint, i dont even have a scanner, and i just borrow my cousin's digicam once in a blue moon, this is all that i could offer. Click for a Better View

    See you next week...

    The Slow Mirror

    gazing at your shadow
    slowly moving
    each particle of you show
    dancing in the dark
    gradually catching the light -
    the light wrapping you
    sipping outside
    sliding away...
    your faded guitar
    through the spaces behind
    blends in the night.

    i stare -
    at the semblance of you
    half dark half blue
as you get blinded by the glare
    a spot hang over
    between our superficial worlds.

    with slow perception
    i dive into the distance
and dare to create the voyage of the twilight
    and we journey through
    endless walks
    battled by words and talks
as we roam in the presence of reality
draging the sunset in our pockets.

    you cloathe me
    with your warm persistence
    as my rationality
    leave this three dimensional world
    and blend in with yours.

    invisible steps

    silence around me
    but chaos in my head
    my thoughts are running
a hundread miles in a second.

    then a crash passed by
    growling hissing metal
    swishing, flattening the sky
leaving marks of stray bullets behind.

    the stillness was broke
a slight spank fom the cold
    chime drops tinkering
then back to quiet it seem.

    hours gone endless
my mind walked to cairo and back
    forcing myself to move
    but my being stayed aback.

now the echo from across lands
    whispers carried by the wind
    above me was scorching
    beyond me was heat.

where is my senses taking me?
a flat coast and desert maybe
    a million faces leaving
    their shadows dissolve to nothing.

the pervading medley of my repose
    i relish with anxiety
    whats beyond these brick walls
    whats beyond these mediocrity

    will you take me away
    from this toruosity?
    my inane impulse -
    now numb.
      now slits.
        now rubbles.

mijn schat, Ik zou u willen lopen huis
