Illo Friday: E is for...
Eccentric Affection
There is something fundamentally wrong
and yet it remains right
through the eyes of one stranger
who chose to remain unknown
with his unheld touch
she feels his unyielding breath
and the whispers of her morning
that remained his nightsky set
both looked up to see
each their shadow vague by the sky
with time yet to prove its worth
and time again to let it un-die.
floating into the electric hum
she moved a step back
as he took her hand again
to lay upon the snow patterned sun
As they toast the wine of ecstacy
she paused her blank pious cries
and she whispered...
"Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes."
"Beach Red Lullabye"

illo note: this is an Experiment combining the techniques i learned and discovered while using MS Paint. I lost count on how many hours i made this. But I've been working on this illustration since Friday. I feel its not yet complete tho and there are some mistakes too. But whatever you see is up to you!
*Eccentric - Deviating from a recognized, conventional, or established norm or pattern ; strange; odd; from Greek ekkentros : ek-, out of + kentron, center

I find your poem very romantic and the illustration is stunning yet eccentric and odd :)
thanks anonymous! hee.. poem came in bit late tho. and this illo is bit hallucinating to look at, now that i stare at the finished product. hehe 8)
oh well, will write out the tag in a minute.....just gt back from a long trip....feel like zzzzzzzzzzzz.....
do drop by and contribute soon =)
oh, of course take your time.. 8)
i know i owe you a contri at your joint poem too tho. make one soon!
The poem is touching...with a feeling of passion...and your painting is vibrant and undulating. The colors are so strong and compelling!
Hi babe. There's something that I want to address regarding the tag that said you write best when you are half-asleep. It will be in my next few posts soon haha. I just got tagged again. Damnit! ;P
Anyway, the first stanza of your poem gives a good opening. THere's a good flow to it. But as I read on and on, it begins to get more fractured. Fractured in the syntax, and yet un-fractured in chronology. A subtle hint of something that you were unaware of?
And I like the phrase "blank pious cries". Gives me the feeling that the female protagonist is worshipping Love like a religion, without knowing why she is doing so.
i also like your poem a lot and your illustration maybe eccentric but i have found myself relating them with each other.
carla.. thank you for your kind words. i made drafts of this in paper then drew it completely on my pc where i added the colors, and decided what patterns to use.
After its completion, i wrote the poem where the characters served as the inspiration of the illo.
i guess the outcome gives a progressive impression.
aristocrat.. hmm... i am moved by your comment even made me laugh too.
the female protagonist is worshipping Love like a religion ha! ok so it beats up my own interpretation of my writing.
but nonetheless, as i always believed, a poem is a painting, and you are what you see in a poem and its great to read other people's thoughts about what one wrote.
isay.. they are indeed eccentric taken together. an offbeat combination and yet stands on its own. glad you like the poem 8)
A very romantic poem accompanied by a much more direct picture. The distribution of colours and textures, with such strong primaries, holds together well, particularly with the blackline structure. It has a sense of "mindscape" about, lent particularly the red dot on the horizon. The green disturbs me a bit, as it somehow contradicts some of the rest - perhaps in a good way - and the skintone at bottom right adds a great deal!
How do you ever know when a work is finished? I have real difficulties with this, and have had to learn to step away at some stage, before I overwork it - though I still often get that wrong.
"a poem is a painting, and you are what you see in a poem"
How true it rings my dear! Just a simple poem can have so many interpretations. That is why in Literature, it's oft said that there are no wrong answers.
Keen to offer us your interpretations? Perhaps one should have the followingt analyses of one's own poems the next time hahaha....
Yours truly
Aristocrat
amazing. art behold.
I think the art is very interesting. It looks like a landscape, there is the sun in the horizon and some wind. Looks like there's a road leading into hills with many interesting landscapes along the way to see.
ian.. what a great interpretation! thank you for sharing your thoughts.
maybe that red dot signifies the sun, and the green twist circling upon it may be hope disguising as a line. so as that green dash lining the horizon. it may be the flatlands where half the world exsisted. and half covers mountain ranges hence, the blue cones. and yet, maybe im wrong.
its nice to hear analyses of one's work as well as the neverending interpretations it may produce. as for work left unfisnished, it is never overworked for art is progressive.
Aristocrat.. well then, let me share a little of my insight..
eccentric affection? or eccentric love affair? these lovers remained only meeting by the horizon, where time is devided in two. his part of the world remains night as hers remains day. and in every meeting somehow the colors mix. somehow being apart made them remain together. in this union, they are souls dancing in the sun. and their union is like wine, pure, intoxicating, addicting..
although i agree to what Nietzsche said ..there are no facts, only interpretations. and id be glad to hear what others have seen.
Billy.. hee 8)
Liz.. well, what can i say? that is the closest interpretation so far. thanks for sharing your thoughts..
