Illo Friday: Roots
threshold
step into the unyielding world
the starting point
the first void
as your ceptar lights
the route gone dark
the pastel of pitch-black
a doorway to a new dimension
slip into oblivion or discreet pleasure
as you ponder -
would you enter,
or would you turn back?
tantalized by your marveled stare
i stood a distance
glancing your shadow navigate
as your steps turn into echoes
that slowly died away
half burried
on a plot of stones and leaves
without dismay without fear,
i waited and remained
for your shadow to reappear
im on the verge of passin out
no cure for these ragged lips
and sightless eyes.
the root of it all -
the envy of the deities
of your brilliance that had shed
out the gloom and tainted
my poor vision in near darkness
captured me once again
as i move unsteadily
holding unto sorrow that sees
no discernment
nor untarnished questions
that i may step away into the shade,
my dear tempest
my nympth
i'll wait for you...
damned me cursed to forever be haunting
beneath the dark-leaved unknown tree.

broken hearted people trapped in tree roots of endless questions and expectation! nice work with gray, balck and white velvet!
Really like the flow in the illustration here. Do you use a software or draw and scan them?
I can see some faces in the jungle, maybe it's my imagination maybe no. Nice work !
isay.. cool interpretation! well some people are indeed entangled within roots that are just hanging above us. btw, this is a Balete tree. didnt know the englsih name of it so i placed "unknown" tree.. hehe
.:A:... oh funny you asked. actually i freehand draw this on MS Paint. i have a photoshop installer but i lack the free space on my HD so it remains uninstalled *wink
maybe using ms paint too much made me so used to it. all my illos are made there. 8D
rowantree.. oh strangely, after drawing this.. i had trouble staring at the finish product. it was night time here and only have my pc monitor as light. i was seeing faces too! old folks in my country believe the Balete is known to be the entrance to an enchanted dimension. oh well, maybe we both just lack sleep. 8)
hey that looks like the banyan tree near the zoo in waikiki! cool pic :)
I like the way the trunks look like hands reaching up out of the ground to grab the branches
Excellent writing! This was one of the first blogs I've seen that actually stopped me and made me what to read more.
LS.. thanks! nice of you to say.. i presume you came from BE surfing?
Tony LaRocca.. nice interpretation. i took a second look, and come to think of it, it does look like hands.. hmm..
neko.. oh i drew this out of looking at an actual Balete tree that lingered in my head. it was kinda spooky in real life tho. 8)
I REALLY like your illustration this week! Can also see figures and faces :)
This is very cool...I love the density of the trunks and the hanging vines/roots...and all the hidden faces and bodies. It's captivating. Very nice job!
Anonymous, carla.. thanks, glad you both liked it! the "hidden faces" were purely accidental tho. 8)
That is beautiful. Words and illustration.
thanks kim! and thanks for dropping by... c'yah next friday...
very nice work! (I agree I see the faces too !....)
Eerie, haunting and beautiful, both your poem and your illustration.
Nuray-Tulipland.. thanks! i liked how it turned out too. 8)
AravisArwen.. thanks glad you liked the poem too. i have a thing with strangely beautiful things.
wow beautiful works and the image is haunting!
I like the smell of oil paint too! - and turps too :}
This is really spooky-looking - it has great texture and a nice sense of foreboding - very dark and a strong composition!
Katherine.. turps? ohh thinner!! hehe.. im guilty of that too.. esp when it lingers in my room.. like your painting smells good too... 8)
ian, ali.. thanks. both poem and illo could indeed give a dark ambiance.
